I met Riad many years ago, around 1991 when I was writing about the Iraqi opposition. He was always ready with a quote and insightful analysis about events in Iraq. He was a patriot and a fighter. It was an honour and a privilege to know him and to call him a friend. We worked together on a book about his experiences and unjust arrest. I hope and pray that the principles he advocated will be respected.
